Very well made RGB matrix
As other reviewers mentioned above, this is a nicely made RGB matrix in Uno-shields style. I have used several other RGB matrix boards, most of them are made with WS2812B controllers that are NeoPixel library comparable. The part I like most about this board is the RGB LEDs are all sealed with white defusing material, which makes the light quality much better than those built with bear RGB diodes with internal wires exposed when lit.
The reasons that I take off one star are the following:
1) Yes, it is better to use LEDs sealed with defusing material. But It would be even better if they could find LEDs covered with a better defusing structure to fully eliminate the light center, making every LED an evenly lit dot.
2) some users prefer the spread LED layout, but I prefer a more condensed layout, such as the layout on Ardu2040M board. Again, this is a bias for my own project needs.
3) I wish they had used LEDs that are built with SASK9822 or ACA102C compatible controllers, which provide much better performance and better optical quality. Hopefully, they will have an upgraded version in this direction sometime soon.
4) This manufacturer does seem to be less open on their sample code. I spent some time looking for the RGB strip data PIN on the UNO header before I was able to code it. Sure one can eventually figure it out from one of the figures on the provided instruction sheet (D9 on the UNO board header). This PIN is stated in their sample code, only after you sign up for a user account on their website.
Overall, this is a very well-built board, with a reasonable price in the Arduino-compatible RGB matrix category. It also works well with the Wemo D1 R32 board (only have to change the data pin from 9 on UNO to 13 on Wemo D1R32), which is a UNO-style (highly compatible physically) ESP32 board with much more power.
