Easter Sunday: Peek-a-Boo Bunny

Did you know that the world’s largest chocolate egg weighed in at over 7200kg? That’s about the same size as a full grown African elephant! For the average American, it would take over 1600 years to eat that much chocolate!

When to Celebrate

The official day for Easter is determined to be the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox, which falls every year on March 21st. This was decided to be the method of deriving the date by the Council of Nicaea in the year 325. To make it more confusing, while all churches use the same formula, some churches follow the Gregorian calendar, while others follow the Julian calendar, which means that there are actually two different dates for Easter! Most people follow the Gregorian calendar, which means that the date typically falls sometime during the last week of March and the first week of April.

The Toolkit

To build your Peek-a-Boo Bunny, gather these supplies:

  • Cardstock or A4 Paper (Thicker paper makes a stronger and more durable craft)

  • Glue or Adhesive Tape

  • Scissors or Craft Knife (Safety First: Always ask an adult for assistance when using sharp cutting tools)

  • 3 Straws that can bend

  • Hole Punch (Safety First: Ask an adult for assistance if needed)

 

The Build: Step-by-Step

Phase 1: Print & Prepare

1. Print all templates and prepare your materials. Per craft you’ll need:

  • 1 Bunny Head

  • 2 Hands

  • 2 Eggs

  • 1 Chest (if desired)

Phase 2: Straw Assembly

2. Stick the 3 straws together using adhesive tape.

  • The middle straw should be upside down—it will act as the body, while the two outer straws will hold the hands.

3. Trim the ends of the left and right straws to fit perfectly for the hands.

Phase 3: Paper Cup Setup

4. Prepare a paper cup and punch 3 holes:

  • Left and right for the hands

  • Bottom center for the middle straw to pull out 

5. Insert the straws through the holes so the hands are on the sides and the body is in the middle.

Phase 4: Attach the Bunny

6. Stick the rabbit head on top of the middle straw.
7. Adjust the straw length if needed—trim if it’s too long.

Phase 5: Reveal the Eggs

8. Pull down the bottom straw to make the bunny’s hands reveal the eggs for a perfect Peek-a-Boo moment!

Success Checklist

  • Pull Test: Does the middle straw move smoothly up and down to make the bunny reveal the eggs?

  • Alignment Check: Do the hands and eggs line up properly with the holes in the cup?

  • Stability Check: Is the paper cup sturdy enough to hold the straws without tipping over?

  • Head Check: Does the bunny head stay securely on top of the middle straw when you pull?

Did You Know? Did you know that the wheel of cheese chosen for the annual competition is a Double Gloucester, and weighs up to 4kg, or almost 9 pounds? And while rolling down the hill, it has been clocked up to speeds of up to 112km/h, or 70mp/h? If the cheese were to hit you at that speed, the impact force would have roughly twice the power of a knockout punch from a professional heavyweight boxer, or about the same as being hit with a 5 gallon water jug thrown from a third floor balcony. When to Celebrate The Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling Festival occurs every year on the spring Bank Holiday in the United Kingdom, which falls on the last Monday of May annually. This day symbolically marks the transition from spring into summer. The Toolkit To build your Daring Downhill Descenders, gather these supplies: The amomii Template: [GET THE FREE TEMPLATE HERE] Cardstock or A4 Paper: (Use thicker paper for a stronger build) Glue or Double-Sided Tape Scissors or Craft Knife: (Safety First: Always ask an adult for assistance when using sharp cutting tools) 2 Marbles  A piece of Cardstock (for reinforcement) 2 Rubber Band The Build: Step-by-Step  Phase 1: Print & Cut  1.Print and Prepare: Print your template and cut out all the pieces.  Parts Needed (per character): 1 rectangular piece 2 capsule-shaped pieces: for extra durability, attach the capsule pieces onto cardstock backing before assembling. Phase 2: Build the Body 2. Fold the Base: Fold both sides of the rectangular piece as instructed to form the body structure. 3. Attach Capsules: Glue the capsule pieces onto both sides of the rectangle. This creates the outer shell. Phase 3: Add the Character 4. Attach Design: Glue the character design onto the structure—but don’t seal the entire body yet. Phase 4: Insert the Motion Mechanism 5. Add Marbles: Carefully place 2 marbles inside the body. These will create the rolling motion. 6. Seal the Body: Glue and close the remaining parts to fully enclose the marbles. Phase 5: Final Assembly 7. Attach Rubber Bands: Secure one rubber band on each side of the structure. This helps stabilize and guide movement. When to Celebrate World Bee Day is celebrated every year on May 20th. This date was chosen because it was on this date in 1734 that Anton Jansa, the father of beekeeping, was baptized. His exact date of his birth is unknown, so the date of his baptism was chosen instead.
