Did You Know?
Did you know about the famous 1947 UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico? Did you know that it was originally reported to be a "flying disc," but the story was later changed to a weather balloon? The incident sparked massive nationwide interest—enough for the Air Force to launch Project Blue Book, a study dedicated to analyzing UFO sightings. In the years following Roswell, Project Blue Book cataloged over 12,000 different sightings!

When to Celebrate
World UFO Day is celebrated every year on July 2nd, a date that commemorates the 1947 crash of what was thought to be an alien spacecraft in Roswell, New Mexico. In 1994, the US government declassified Project Mogul, revealing that the Roswell wreckage was actually a surveillance device from a top-secret program during the early years of the Cold War.
The Toolkit
To build your Alien Abduction craft, gather these supplies:
-
The amomii Template: [GET THE FREE TEMPLATE HERE]
-
Cardstock or A4 Paper: (Use thicker paper for a stronger build)
-
Glue or Double-Sided Tape
-
Scissors or Craft Knife: (Safety First: Always ask an adult for assistance when using sharp cutting tools.)
Materials Required:
Grab these materials and let's get started!
-
1 Chenille Wire
-
2 mm Corrugated Cardboard
-
3 Plastic Straws (Cut to length as needed)
-
2 Rubber Bands
-
1 Popsicle stick
The Build: Step-by-Step
Phase 1: Print & Prepare
1. Print and Cut: Print all template pages and carefully cut out the pieces. Pay attention to the template notes showing which pieces should be attached to corrugated cardboard for extra strength.

Phase 2: Build the Body Structure
2. Prepare:
-
3 straws
-
Green rectangle template piece

3. Arrange the straws as shown in the reference picture:
-
The straight straw goes in the middle.
-
The two bendable straws go on the left and right sides.

4. Secure the Structure: Tape the three straws together.

5. Wrap the green rectangle template around the bottom section of the straws and glue it in place.

Phase 3: Build the UFO Body
6. Prepare the Parts
Gather:
-
UFO body templates attached to cardstock
-
1 Popsicle stick
-
4 rectangular cardboard pieces
-
Straw structure
-
2 rubber bands
-
Pipe cleaner

7. Reinforce the UFO: Flip the UFO body pieces over and glue two cardboard rectangles onto each side as shown in the reference picture.

Phase 4: Install the Launch Mechanism
8. Prepare the Ice Cream Stick: Trim the corners of the popsicle stick as shown in the reference image.

9. Attach the Stick: Glue the popsicle stick to the bottom section of the straw structure.

10. Add the Rubber Bands: Loop one rubber band onto each side of the stick.

Phase 5: Assemble the UFO
11. Position the Straw Structure: Place the straw structure in the center of the UFO body. (Note: Do not glue it in place!)

12. Prepare the Alien Beam: Cut the chenille wire into two equal pieces and bend each piece into a circular shape.

13. Install the Beam Rings: Hang the pipe cleaner rings onto the straw structure and glue the rings to the cardboard body as shown in the reference picture.

Phase 6: Add the Characters
14. Attach the Alien Parts: Glue the character templates onto the tops of the side straws to create the alien heads and hands.

15. Attach the UFO Top: Glue the top section of the UFO onto the straw structure.

Phase 7: Add the Human
14. Install the Human Figure: Attach the "Save Me" human template to the popsicle stick as shown in the reference picture.
As shown in the image below, fold the two protruding blue strips backward over the popsicle stick, and secure them tightly with double-sided tape.

17. Add the UFO Cover: Attach the half-UFO cardstock piece behind the UFO body as shown in the reference picture.

18. Cross the Rubber Bands: Stretch both rubber bands and hook them diagonally to the opposite sides of the half-UFO cardstock piece. Make sure the rubber bands form an "X" shape and can move freely without getting tangled.

Your Alien Abduction craft is complete! 👽🛸
Pull and release the mechanism to watch the UFO "abduct" the human as the aliens lift them into their spaceship!

Success Checklist
-
Abduction Test: Does the human move up and down smoothly when the mechanism is activated?
-
Rubber Band Check: Are both rubber bands securely attached and evenly stretched?
-
Structure Check: Is the UFO body sturdy and able to hold the mechanism in place?
-
Alien Check: Are the alien heads and hands securely attached to the straws?
